The district of Pithoragarh was born in the year 1962, after being separated from Almora. The vast Himalayan range extending from one end of the horizon to the other, adds to the dignity of the 8x5 km wide and 1815 m high Pithoragarh the district headquarter of the same name. The border town of Pithoragarh a centre of commercial activity, having the borders of Nepal on the east and Tibet on the north.

The ideal time for touring these places would be from April to June and from September to mid November. Temperature vary from 20-14.5° centigrade.
