Many of us think that Wettest Spot in the World honour goes to Cherrapunji, but the spot that receives the most rainfall in the world has now shifted to Mawsynram. This is a three hour mountain drive from Shillong and the scenery is mesmerizing. You see several waterfalls on the way, the largest being the Noh Kalikai, which is also the world's fourth highest falls.



When you go there make it a point to visit the Mawjinbuin Cave which has some spectacular stalagmite formations. Plan your trip with enough time to drive to and fro from Shillong, as there is no accommodation at this place. The roads are steep and winding and very often it rains heavily or gets shrouded in mist - of course that is what you are going there to experience!
