Mamallapuram
Mamallapuram, 60 km from
the state capital Chennai, attracts tourists from all over the globe to its
monumental splendour and sunny beaches. The town itself has the exotic look
of an incomplete city of stone temples. Once a flourishing port town during
the time of Pallavas, today it is a major beach resort in South India.
Most of the temple and monuments of Mamallapuram were completed during the
reigns of Narasimha Varman I and Narasimha Varman II and are excellent
specimens of Dravidian temple architecture and Pallava art. Robust earthly
beauties, mythological episodes, epic battles, demons, Gods and animals, all
breathtakingly real, are vividly depicted on the walls.
Being a coastal town, the weather of Mamallapuram is greatly influenced by
the sea. There is rainfall throughout the year and the climate remains
