Kashiya: The Kushinagar of the ancient days has now become Kashiya and 2 km away from the market place is the Buddhist pilgrimage. Siddharth was born in Lumbini inthe kingdom of Kapilavastm of Nepal, to Suddhodhan (father) and Mayadevi (mother). At the age of 35, he left Kapilavastu in search of truth and thus began his glorious journey. He finally attained enlightenment in Gaya ie, Bodh Gaya after having visited Sravasti and Vaishali. At the ripe age of 80, he left for the eternal abode on the banks of the Hiranyabati river under a Sal tree at Kushinagar. In the year 1876 an ancient edict of the Parinirban Chaitya was discovered. There is also a temple surrounding the stupa in Kushinagar, where there is a statue of Lord Buddha lying in his death-bed, facing towards the right with his head on his hands. There are ruins of various important places like the ancient Ashram, Math, Temple, etc all over this place. There are also some newly built Chinese, Burmese and Tibetan Buddhist temples. Japan has built a Stupa resembling the one at Sanchi in Kushinagar. There is also a museum which has some rare collections of the past relics.
