Jhansi - An Introduction
Jhansi has been a centre of revolution in the first war of Indian independence. It used to be the capital of Bundelkhand province and is deeply linked with the fearless queen, Rani Laxmibai. The queen was amongst the first freedom fighters of India, as she fought against the British army till she died in the battlefield. For a tourist, Jhansi is a historical place with forts, temples and palaces to see. The city is located in South of Uttar Pradesh, on the border with Madhya Pradesh. Jhansi has proximity with Gwalior, Khajuraho, Agra, Kanpur and Lucknow.

By Rail
Jhansi railway station is on the main lines of Delhi-Mumbai and Lucknow-Mumbai route. Jhansi is well connected to the major cities via rail network.

Tourist Attractions
Jhansi Fort
Jhansi Fort is the same fort, which was once under the rule of Bundelkhand rulers. Rani Laxmibai also sat on throne of the fort. The fort is built on a hilltop, strategically located to counter the enemy attacks. There are ten gates for entry in the fort. Kadak Bijli Cannon, used in the 1857 war, is also kept here. The huge fort will give an insight of the lavish past of this area.

Orcha Fort
Orcha Fort complex is actually a cluster of palaces, temples and gardens. Set on the banks of Betwa river, the fort was built by the rulers of Bundelkhand province. The Raja Ram Temple in Orcha fort complex is the only temple in India, where Rama is worshipped as a King. Orcha means 'Hidden', as the fort was built amidst forests.

Government Museum
The Museum showcases weapons, statues, dresses and photographs that represents the Chandela dynasty and a picture gallery of the Gupta period. There are also terracottas, bronzes, manuscripts, paintings and coins. Museum remains closed on Mondays and second Saturday of every month.

One can find good acommodations facilities across the city. Jhansi has a good stay option for all stretches of budget. Most of the hotels are in the city centre. For a change, visitors can also opt to stay at Gwalior (103 Km), and visit Jhansi on a trip of a couple of days.
