Bokaro
About Bokaro Tourism
Located along the river Damodar, Bokaro district is home to India's largest
steel complex. It is home today to as many as 8 lakh people from all over
the country and considered as a Mini India. The surrounding regions are
quite picturesque with green valleys and streams.
Sightseeing:
One must visit the Steel Plant and see the entire process of steel making,
since this is the main activity in Bokaro.
The Bokaro Ispat Pustakalaya is a library that has as many as 40,000 books
to browse from.
Visit the well known City Park, and its artificial lake, including the three
new Japanese styled islands. Also visit the Jawahar Nehru Biological Park, a
botanical garden home to many animals and birds from world over. It has been
widely acclaimed for its breeding of white tigers, Bengal tigers and Asiatic
lions.
Garga Dam, near the city, is a great spot for picnics.
Some of the city's main temples are Ram Mandir, with other smaller shrines
encircling it; the Jagannath Temple, said to be built after the famous
temple of Puri; and the Kali Mandir, one of the oldest temples in the city.
You can also visit temples like Gayatri Mandir and Aaiyappa Mandir, which is
an important religious and cultural meeting ground for the South Indians who
live here.
Other activities: You could shop at the oldest market of Bokaro, which is
housed inside the Ram Mandir complex. While there, you must try batata poori,
samosa, phuchka and egg rolls that the food stalls are famous for.
Excursions:
Parasnath Hills, an important center of Jain pilgrimage, and has the shrines
of the nine Tirthankaras who were said to have attained salvation here. Some
of these temples are as old as 2000 years.
Visit the city of Ranchi, capital of Jharkhand and also known for its scenic
surroundings.
